Newport Beach

Every August my in-laws take us all to Newport Beach for a week of R & R in the sun and sand of California. This is one of my favorite weeks of the year.

We wake up every morning and head down the boardwalk to Seaside Donuts for a healthy breakfast. It’s the one week a year we can get away with eating a donut for breakfast everyday!

Then it’s off to the beach, seriously every day, all day. The kids can’t get enough of the waves and we can’t get enough of the sun.

To go along with our breakfast donuts we love to go to Ruby’s Diner out on the pier.

Every year we take the ferry over to Balboa Island for a quick stroll around the Island.

Paradise I tell you, true paradise!

You may notice that Mary wasn’t in any of the pictures. That’s because my parents took her for the week while we were relaxing on the beach. We missed her but she had more fun with them!

Fun in June

I can’t believe that June is over! I’m in denial that nearly half the summer has slipped away. As I write this post I realize how busy we have been and time really does fly when you are having fun. (I have to admit that Greg and I are tuckered out!)

JUNE:

Planting a garden

Bees Games

Mary is in love with Bumble! She still talks about him all the time.

This ball came right up into the suite and barely missed someone’s head and hit me in the thigh! Fortunately it had slowed down and didn’t leave a mark.:)

Sunday Dinners at Mimi and Poppy’s

This Sunday we went to the Silver Fork Cabin with the cousins.

Greg ran Ragnar

ReAL Salt Lake Game

When Max was 5 years old he was in the WCF safety ad. He was excited to see they were still using his picture to advertise at the ReAL game. Max looks older 2 1/2 years later!

Swimming at Willow Creek

Will and Mary snacked while Claire and Max took lessons.

Claire, cousin Kate and Mary.

After Mary learned she could float with waterwings, I couldn’t get her out of the pool! She loves her independence and Claire had her first swim lessons.

Wheeler Farm with Cousins

If your kids want to get down and dirty, there are great trails with little streams in the back of the farm and the kids loved it!

Grandpa and Grammy led the kids on a scavanger hunt throught the woods. Will and cousin Alison’s shirts show the fun they had running through the river!

We finished the month out with a great day of boating up at East Canyon.

Yes, that is my little Mary on the tube! She was addicted to riding on the tube–no fear! I am a worrier and she is making me age faster.

Hope your summer is great!

Swimsuits

This word gives me a bit of stress. I detest looking for swimsuits. I think most of us aren’t super comfortable parading around with little clothing on so we all would like to find one that enhances the good parts of us and does not draw attention to the not so good parts. I remember that as a teenager looking for a swimsuit was a lot of work and back then I had more good parts to my body.:) While we were in the dressing room trying on my pile of swimwear my mom once told me about her favorite swimsuit that she had purchased in college. She and some friends went to Hawaii to work for the summer and they found this company that made the swimwear just for your body. They took the measurements and you picked the fabric and they tailor-made your swimsuit. That sounds wonderful don’t you think? I think of it every time the season begins and I re-enter the dressing room with an armful of swimsuits hoping that one will fit like it was made just for me!

However, I don’t know of a company that does that and if there was one I am sure I could not afford it.:)

Here are some of this seasons swimsuits I found while shopping online:

Victoria’s Secret

J. Crew

Ann Cole

Anthropologie

Vera Bradley

I must say these ads reel me in. Fabulous, printed, matching luggage!

I am a fan of Vera Bradley bags. I have to admit I was not the first time I saw them. I was not sure about the quilting and bold patterns. However, a year after I first laid eyes on them I purchased the large backpack (which they no longer make). It has been great! I have used it as a diaper bag and I also took it on a trip to Europe sans kids. So light and easy to carry. After two babies my bag is nearly threadbare. My cute husband surprised me with the new Bookbag in Mocha Rouche for my birthday this last month! I love it! It is a tad smaller than the large backpack I had before which is great since Mary is getting older and I don’t have to carry quite as much stuff.

What purse or bag is a favorite of yours?
