Spring Skiing With the Fam!

It was the perfect day to start skiing again. I loved skiing all through school and college and then I started to have kids and there never seemed to be time. The boys started skiing a couple of years ago with Greg, but I usually stayed home with the baby. I haven’t been skiing in 10 years and it was so fun to be back on the slopes. Even more fun was having Greg and the kids with me. It was a big year for us – I got back on skis, the boys gave snowboarding a try and Claire took her first ski lesson! IMG_2561 IMG_2548 IMG_2554 IMG_2563 IMG_2564 IMG_2560 IMG_2541

Love UT Give UT

Love UT Give UT will bring together Utahns for 24-hours of unprecedented giving. It’s one extraordinary day to support the organizations that make Utah special. And it’s your chance to make a real impact. On March 22, 2013 we will be able to make a real impact by adding our donations to thousands more. Every donation gives your favorite organization the chance to win challenge grants.

I heard about Love UT Give UT through a good friend at work. It’s an opportunity for us to learn about different non-profits in our community and a way to raise money for them. The Community Foundation of Utah has organized this first ever event in Utah. Check out the link below to learn how you can get involved and to see a full list of non-profits that you can support.

What Fills Vacant lots in the Fall?

In the early Fall sunflowers start growing wild on the side of the road which I LOVE. Those vacant lots that are usually an eye sore become something to behold. When you think of sunflowers, is the first thing that pops into your head a country- style border in a bathroom or kitchen? I wish the answer was no but I think that is probably what most people think of when they think of sunflowers. They got stuck in country motif, but I think sunflowers are gorgeous wild flowers.

I had a flower company for about 9 years called Les Fleurs Floral Design and I loved doing fall weddings with lots of browns, rusts, oranges, blues and top them with sun flowers. However, I must tell you that when you are cutting wild sunflowers, have your vase of water with you so that you can put the flowers directly in the vase after you cut them. Sunflowers need lots and lots of water! Remove the foliage and then find a cool place for the flowers, in their vase, to hydrate before using them for an upcoming dinner or event.

Now that I have given you my thoughts on sunflowers, I want to hear yours…Greg doesn’t appreciate them and would put them in the weed category. What do you think?

Good Eats

We spent Spring Break in Phoenix and ate out at a few delicious restaurants. It got me thinking about some of the great food we have had recently and some restaurants we want to try. I thought I would throw out a little review of some of our favorite places to eat in hopes that you will return the favor and let us know of some of your favorite eateries.

Simply Thai
I can’t get enough of this place lately. They offer a great lunch menu for $6.99, come on where can you eat great food these days for $6.99! I always get the gang massaman, why you ask, because it’s DELICIOUS. They are also located in Sandy which is super close to work.

Copper Onion
We have only eaten here once but I can’t stop talking about how good it was. It has a great atmosphere and made us feel like we were in New York City. Whenever Andrea and I go out we like to share a meal so that we can also try an appetizer and usually some dessert. We started off with mussels with a creamy black pepper sauce that is by far the most delicious sauce I have ever tasted in my life. I could have put it in a cup and drank it! Next we went for the wagyu (not sure what that even means) beef stroganoff. I’m usually not a big fan of beef stroganoff but this dish definitely changed my mind.

Stella Grill
This place never disappoints. They are owned by the same people who own Red Butte Cafe and their menus are quite similar. We usually hit Stella’s just because it is closer to our house. I always get the carne asada tacos. They also have some great desserts to finish off your meal.

Epic
This restaurant is located in a bit of random spot but it’s so good. Andrea and I always share a flat bread, Ken’s salad with baby mixed greens, roasted tomato vinaigrette, apples, the best house dried tomatoes, and fontina cheese & candied pecans. Next we move to the main course which is usually grilled beef tenderloin with port reduction, blue cheese butter and shallot herb mashed potatoes. Sometimes we get the ahi tuna which is also fantastic.

Well, those are some of our favorites. Here is a list of ones we want to try.
Plum Alley
Vuz
Les Madeleines (I’ve eaten here and love it but I need to take Andrea)

Alright, help us out with this list and let us know some of your favorite places to eat.
